Celebrity/Patient Speaker for Endometriosis, Hypothyroidism and Early Hysterectomy

Singer/songwriter Karina Nuvo knows what it feels like to be bestowed with a blessing and a curse. The Miami-born beauty had just moved to Los Angeles to showcase her booming voice in the hopes of furthering her musical career, when she was sidelined by a seriously painful disease that put her career, and her life, on hold for six years.

Shortly after moving to L.A., Karina was stricken with a severe case of Endometriosis in her ovaries, uterus and colon, forcing her to undergo 5 surgeries and six months of Lupron shots that gave her serious side effects she endures to this day. After her last surgery, a Laporotomy, she felt good enough to begin her journey again with some wonderful performances in the United States. Surprisingly, Karina discovered she was expecting a child, after taking the drug Zelnorm for two months. “I thought for sure I was not able to conceive a child without alternative methods.” While her pregnancy was normal, after the birth her hormone problems returned with Karina suffering from Post Partum Depression and Hypothyroidism.

Unfortunately pregnancy isn’t a cure for Endometriosis and the symptoms have returned, leading Karina to make an emotional decision to have a hysterectomy at the age a young age. “I am lucky to have a beautiful, baby boy and I feel that if I were ever to continue my calling as a performer, this is what I have to do.”

 
On April 7th 2009, Karina underwent a full Vaginal  Hysterectomy as her final attempt to live a healthy pain free life. The surgury was a success and she will be looking into what the hormone replacement best suits her.

Karina will emerge again with her unstoppable creative drive and conquer this disease and the music world too with the release of her highly anticipated new album, NUVO SOUL. The first generation Cuban-American writes and produces all her music both in English and Spanish, extending her appeal across cultures. Her music is sophisticated, authentic and encompasses all cultures, races and genders. With her inspiring and positive message, her vocal delivery will uplift even the most cynical spirit. Her versatility has led her to grace the stage with some of the most distinguished Jazz, R&B, and Latin performers in the world.

Being on stage and connecting with her audience is natural for Karina. She speaks emotionally ,honestly and eloquently about her battle with Endometriosis and is strongly motivated to raise awareness of the disease and its treatment options. In speaking engagements, Karina’s highly respected physicians, Dr. Charles March and Dr. Ron Woodard, and Dr Freedman are dedicated to being involved.

Karina appeals particularly strong with women 22-45 years old, but also relates very well with to teenagers, who are often misdiagnosed with the disease. While she is Latina, she connects to all women of diverse ethnicities. Karina Nuvo is a wonderful advocate for any event/speaking engagement relating to surviving and living with a debilitating disease.
